When the Clouds Got Stuck
Shining a bright light through moments of darkness. Finding the strength to overcome challenges by honoring the legacies of our ancestors. Working together to reach new levels of joy and understanding. These are the themes of acclaimed playwright Roy Conboy’s “When the Clouds Got Stuck”, a stirring allegory about how youth, community and cultural tradition unite to achieve hope, wisdom and a path for the future. As performed by the Handful Players, the play is also an inspiring celebration of song, dance and storytelling. “When the Clouds Got Stuck” showcased the incredible talents of students from Booker T. Washington Community Service Center, Margaret Hayward Rec-Connect and the Western Addition Beacon Center. The kids’ energetic performances brought down the house at the African-American Arts & Culture Complex in San Francisco, before an audience that included mayor-elect London Breed. Directed by Ryan Marchand and Samantha Jackson, the production featured live musical accompaniment by Imanuel Junaedy and his jazz trio, choreography by Santoya Fields, costumes by Rene Walker and set design by Joe Colmenares.
